With the exception of Birka (SCA event, Manchester NH, 1/29/11) WTC will likely not be setting up as a merchant at any other events this year.
Event sales, with a few exceptions, have been steadily declining for the past 2 years and have now reached a level where, to be honest, it is barely worth our time to do it given the cost of gas and time to get there.
We kept it up last year because we love camping in the big pavillion and meeting our customers in person and displaying our wares and the whole event experience.
A few years ago, the majority of our sales were from events and the web-site was just a bit extra. This year, events were responsible for less than 15% of our annual sales and internet sales continue to grow remarkably quickly, especially as we expand into bigger-ticket items that folks don't usually purchase at smaller events.
Additionally, I have a pretty heavy workload this season as we are finishing up some home remodeling and have quite a few projects around the house such as building a large shed, a deck, and some landscaping work. We will also be traveling a fair bit for training and family obligations this season.
Therefore we've decided to take a season off from events as financially it makes far more sense for us to stay home and work (A weekend event typically keeps me out of the shop for 4 days) than to travel to events and in all liklihood lose money.
It is our intention to return to our usual event schedule for 2012, where at the very least we will be very excited to display all of the new armour and gear that we have been working on.
